Anglesey Solar Farm

Location: Anglesey, Wales

Description of Work: 15 megawatt Solar Farm

Duration: March - June 2014

Background:

Anglesey is a small island off of the North West coast of wales, and the site for this solar park is at the Bogordon Estate which is currently owned by the Myrick family. The size of the site is around 70 acres which equates to approximately 28 football pitches! This will be Wales’s biggest solar park and once complete will generate enough electricity for around 4,500 homes and will connect to the National Grid via existing overhead lines.  The land will not just be solely used for the solar panels, once completed there will still be plenty of grassland for grazing animals.

Scope:

We started carrying out the works back in March of this year and completed in June. We installed nearly 60,000 solar panels with over 300 miles of cable used.

Our PV team of engineers Russell Strong, Maurice Sapsford, Simon Ford and Jake Markin have worked tirelessly to get the works completed on many large scale solar farms over the past year; this includes working all around the country, working long hours, working to very tight time scales and in very poor weather conditions during the winter, but very pleasant during the summer!
