RAF Lyneham

Location: Lyneham, Wiltshire

Description of Work: Electrical installation works

Background:

Royal Air Force Lyneham is a former air force base located in Wiltshire, which closed in 2012. It is now the site of the Defence Technical Training Change Programme centre which will coincide with the closure of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers' technical training establishments at Arborfield Garrison and Bordon Garrison, both of which are due to move to Lyneham by the end of 2015

Scope:

The project comprised of the installation of electrical services in the new offices mess and new mechanical transport workshop. In addition to these works we undertook the complete installation of a new fire alarm in both buildings.

The works comprised of the installation of galvanised trunking, conduit and tray. The wiring system used was single cables in containment and SWA cables. The new fire alarm was wired in MICC in both buildings. New supplies to each building originated from the existing substation site and the project was completed on a strict timescale to coincide with a grand opening by HRH Duke of Kent.

“We were delighted in the standards and professionalism shown by Wessex Building Services from the initial design through to completion”
