Description of Works: Installation of a 10Kwp Rooftop solar PV system

Background:

Blandford Police Station has become the first in Dorset to be fitted with energy saving solar panels.  This project is part of improvements to the station, including LED Lighting upgrades and general refurbishment including replacement of a defective generator. The project was carried out by a local contractor Dewitt Group, who employed Wessex Renewable Energy to undertake the design & installation of the solar PV system.

Scope:

Wessex Building Services fitted a 10 Kwp solar PV system onto the roof of the Police station. As well as helping reduce their carbon footprint, the solar panels will provide approximately 10% of the annual electrical consumption for the building and they should save around £1,850 per year.

The panels are mounted on a ballasted flat roof frame system which negates the need to penetrate the roof weather proofing for fixing. We used a 3D solar design model for confirming 365 days a year shade effects to ensure the position of the array is optimised to achieve maximum generation along with photos of the completed project.
