M&E Quantity Surveyor - Shaftesbury or Ringwood - Wessex Building Services

Wessex Building Services are a family run company based in Dorset, with over 20 years’ experience in the industry. Wessex Building Services provides a comprehensive range of services, including, heating ventilation, air conditioning, hot & cold water services and all other mechanical ancillary requirements.  Due to our continued expansion we are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join our team, either at our Shaftesbury or Ringwood office. 

You will be a competent, self-motivated, financially focused individual. You will have proven quantity surveying/commercial experience in dealing with the submission of valuations, final account agreement, contract negotiation, cost management and monthly reporting.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of tender documents and pre-tender estimates
  • Preparation of interim and final accounts and securing payment
  • Subcontract procurement and management
  • Negotiation and agreement of final accounts
  • Negotiation of contract terms and conditions
  • Preparing turnover/cash flow projections and monthly financial reports
  • Provide site management with support and advice on contractual and  commercial issues
  • Financial management of multiple contracts at any one time ranging in value from £50k to £7m
  • Working on various standard and bespoke forms of contract and subcontract.
  • Site visits and attendance at internal and external meetings
  • Assisting contracts managers in pricing and managing variations
  • General administrative duties to assist the Commercial Manager in meeting monthly deadlines

Financial Reporting

  • Cashflow and turnover forecasts
  • Financial reports for management accounts
  • General reports for monthly commercial meetings

Essential Experience and Qualifications:

  • MRICS qualified with some post qualification experience
  • Previous experience both pre and post contstruction stages
  • Ability to handle a heavy workload including managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong commercial knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical diciplines
  • Strong communication skills both internal and external


  • Previous experience in a consultancy role
  • Previous experience with large blue-chip organisations
