Description of Work: Installation and Maintenance of Electrical and Mechanical Systems.
Background:
Clayesmore School is a prestigious Independent co-educational school located in the heart of the South West of England. Wessex has worked with the school for over 35 years and been a provider both of new systems and maintenance services throughout this time.
The school recently built a brand new Business Centre to provide teaching accommodation for subjects such as Business Studies and Economics, along with additional classrooms for ICT and more science laboratories. The building will adjoin the 2002 Jubilee building and will also feature a ‘stock market hall’ providing large screens to track the stock markets and indices and industry news, as well and hot-desking work spaces for the Sixth Form students.
Scope:
Wessex Electricals carried out the full electrical installation for the new business centre. We developed the initial concept into a working design, implementing the installation of lighting, small power, structured cabling, television services, and lightning protection. We provided the wiring for the mechanical and ventilation services which we incorporated into the existing systems.
Works also began on the main house to build a 1.5 storey extension to provide the school with additional room for the girl’s dormitory. We supplied and installed all the electrical services extending from the original house. We installed lighting, small power, structured cabling and television services within the dormitory.
Wessex Fire & Security have also been appointed to install and maintain the school’s fire alarm and intruder alarm systems and work alongside the Wessex Electricals teams.

One excellent example has been the installation of a completely new fire alarm system into our large and rambling Grade 2 listed Main House, which houses not only the administrative hub of the school, but the library, all the catering support and significantly a large girls boarding house. It was with some trepidation that we asked them to install the system during term time with full occupancy. They assured us of their experience in dealing with the sensitivities of such work in care homes and the NHS and true to their word did so with aplomb, on budget and well within time. We could not have been more delighted.”
