St Mary’s Hospital is part of the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, the only integrated acute, community, mental health and ambulance health care provider in England. Established in April 2012, the Trust provides a full range of health services to an isolated offshore population of 140,000.
Based in Newport, the county town of the island, the hospital provides vital medical and community services for the Island’s population including the islands principal ambulance station.
Wessex Fire & Security were instructed to undertake an audit and subsequent service and maintenance works at the hospital for the Trust to ensure that all fire and life safety systems were functioning properly and providing the highest level of protection needed.
A large and very busy campus, the team work around the clock to ensure minimum disruption to the Hospital. Wessex Fire & Security Engineers Martyn Scott and Alistair Burnett, who are based on the island full time and the proud owners of one of our ‘green’ electric vans are perfectly located to oversee the project as well as respond to any day to day enquiries. Both are very well known to staff and visitors to the hospital who are appreciative of the vital services that they provide. The new Wessex ‘green’ electric van has also proved popular and quite a talking point!
Following completion of the works to the main building, the Wessex team undertook a full refurbishment programme for the fire & life safety systems at the Ambulance station.
